Thom Kavanagh (1652 – 1706) was a Boston native and a Sage, a reincarnation of Aita. At an early age, he discovered that he was different from other people, and struggled with his condition for his entire life. This amplified itself once Kavanagh became caught up in the struggle between the Assassins and the Templars.

He was at one point apprenticed to a Master Carpenter by the name of John Davenport - a slave owner - who would later provide good reference for Thom during his travels in the Caribbean. Davenport's estate where Kavanagh worked would eventually become the headquarters  for the Colonial Order of Assassins, and one of Davenport's slaves would eventually take the name Achilles Davenport, and become the Mentor of that Order.

He discovered his hertiage as a Sage when he was rescued from Templars in Kingston and taken to Tulum. He found the Observatory a few months later in Long BayJamaica, and spent the rest of his life there living with the compound's Guardians. He died late in 1706 and was buried a short distance away.

He wrote messages detailing parts of his life and sent them via bottles at sea, which were later recovered across the West Indies by Edward Kenway between 1715 and 1722. The last of these bottles was placed over his grave near the Observatory after his death.
