John E. Wool
John Ellis Wool (20 February 1784 – 10 November 1869) was an officer in the United States Army. After several conflicts and wars, in 1862 he attained the rank of Major General.
When the New York City draft riots broke out on 13 July 1863, Wool was in favor for conscripting any able-bodies men.[1] He later deployed the federal troops in order to quell the riots, ending it in just three days.[2]
