Emergency Exit
Some Mercenaries save Ezio and drag him through the streets to safety. They fight their way back to the Villa, save Claudia, and retreat through the underground tunnels out of the city to the north.
Dialogue
Retreat to the Villa
Ezio is dragged through the town by some townsmen.
- Ezio: Basta! (Stop!) I can walk.
- Man: Look out! They are coming! Everyone retreat to the Villa!
- Ezio: I cannot fight like this. Stand with me!
They fight their way toward the Villa and meet Claudia as she backs away from more attackers.
- Claudia: Ezio!
- Ezio: Get inside the Sanctuary.
- Claudia: Follow me!
Ezio and Claudia make it into Mario’s study and make for the Sanctuary. A man runs outside to help, the other runs in toward the Sanctuary.
- Man: I will hold them back!
- Ezio: Stop! Wait for us!
- Man with eye patch: We thought you had been killed, Ser Ezio.
- Ezio: Not yet.
- Man with eye patch: Where does this passage lead?
- Ezio: To the north, outside the city walls.
- Man with eye patch: I’m surprised it exists. (Ezio begins to close the secret door). Let me through, I must go help the troops. (Ezio seals the door).
- Claudia: Hurry Ezio!
- Ezio: Where’s mother? Is she all right?
- Maria: I am here Ezio.
- Ezio: Grazie a Dio (Thank God).
- Claudia: We could not leave without you.
- Ezio: The way out will be dangerous. Protect our mother.
Outside the tunnels
- Claudia: Where is Mario? I thought he would be waiting for us.
- Man: The Borgia infantry are circling the town!
- Ezio: Mario is dead. You must leave this place. Take mother to Firenze . Get me a horse.
- Claudia: You are not coming with us? Where are you riding?
- Ezio: To Roma.
- Maria: Go, my son, destroy them... but remember for whom we Assassins fight.
Outcome
Ezio, Claudia, Maria and the townspeople escape through the tunnels under the city. Ezio rides for Rome but collapses from his injuries on his way. Monteriggioni is lost.
Trivia
- The man with the eye patch is a traitor working for the Borgia. This would explain his surprise upon seeing the secret tunnel and his sudden eagerness not to continue along it.
- In this mission, Ezio seals the hidden bookcase door with an iron rod. 512 years later, Desmond and Lucy have to go around the back to open the bookcase for Shaun and Rebecca. However, Desmond sees a vision of Ezio inside the sanctuary. It is impossible for Ezio to be inside as you cannot get in through the book case without smashing it and you need two people for the entrance to the Auditore Family Crypt.
- What's more, is that the Borgia Infantrymen could not possibly pursue Ezio, Claudia, Maria and the rest of the villagers as the bookcase is sealed. They would have had to smash it open.
