Autolykos was an Greek merchant and thief who stationed his shop in Nauplia Harbor, Argolis in the 5th century BCE.

Biography

In the 420s BCE, Autolykos played a game of dice with pirate queen Xenia. However, cheating her out of her treasure maps of Anaximander's best works, Autolykos left with the maps while Xenia accused him of thievery. Soon, he set up shop in Nauplia, right at their harbor. Within some time, however, he came into contact with Spartan misthios Kassandra, who was sent to recover the maps from her. Once Kassandra realized that Autolykos cheated Xenia, she began to push him to reveal the maps' locations. Nervous and distraught, Autolykos told Kassandra of their location at Nauplia Shipshed before she left.[1]
