I am still doubtful that Desmond even has a son to begin with, and the earliest he would have had a child was at 16. So considering he was 25 in the main games, this means his son would have to be 10-11 years old. Hardly old enough to function as a modern day protagonist.

Unfortunately, after AC3, the modern day sort of took a hit and most of the questions you were left with in AC3, were not answered. The modern day returned in some capacity in AC4 and Syndicate, but the events are so vague that I have simply stopped following it all. The last good Assassin's Creed game was AC3, and I mean that in terms of the modern day. After that, not so well. Syndicate tried to correct this problem but the issue is the lack of a protagonist for the modern day, otherwise everything is too disconnected and you're merely spectating.
