Pineios

Pineios is a river flowing from Thessaly, Greece, to Peloponnese. It is named after the Thessalian river-god, Peneus.

History

Mythology

According to Greek mythology, the hero Herakles redirected both Pineios and the Alpheios River to flow into Elis and clean out King Augeias' stable as part of his Twelve Labors.

Influence

During the Peloponnesian War, the Peneios Camp in Elis was named after the river.
