Pelenos (died 420s BCE) was a large Greek man who lived in the Sacred Plains of Demeter in Attika, Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
At some point during the war, Pelenos was one of the two suitors, alongside Antikles, who sought to marry Leda, the daughter of Leda and Barnabas who had inherited her late mother's farm. Believing both Pelenos and Antikles to be merely after her mother's estate and wealth, Leda rejected them numerous times, eventually resorting to hiding in a cave near her farm.[1]
Despite her attempt to hide, men she believed to have been sent by either Pelenos or Antikles found Leda. The Spartan misthios Kassandra and Barnabas found her as well, and together they set out to deal with the suitors. Leda led them to the Sanctuary of Eleusis, wherein they killed both Pelenos and Antikles.[1]
