Kadmos was the legendary founder of the polis of Thebes in Boeotia, Greece. According to legend, when his sister Europa was stolen away by the Greek god Zeus, Kadmos chased after them.[1]

Influence and legacy

The akropolis of Thebes was named Kadmeia in honour of Kadmos.[1]

Trivia

  • Pentheus from Greek mythology was said to have been Kadmos' grandson.
