Java
Java is an island of Indonesia, bordered by the Indian Ocean on the south and the Java Sea on the north.
History
From at least the 1600s, the Dutch had a foothold in Java and held influence over the local sultanates.[1] The island's inhabitants were renowned for their usage of petroleum to waterproof their ships, which in 1725 led the members of the Zhang Wei Union to consider making a stop in Java en route to the Philippines, in order to acquire large quantities of petroleum necessary for the production of Greek fire.[2]
During the Seven Years' War, the Colonial Templar Shay Cormac sent spies to the island to aid the British Empire in undermining the Dutch influence.[3] Successful in this attempt, Shay sent additional spies to continue pressuring the Dutch.[4]
