== Update on 移春檻 == | |||
Hello, I corrected our article for [[Yichunkan|移春檻]] a while back in accordance with the errors you pointed out to me. You can review it to see if there are still any problems. When I look back, it was actually a good thing that you let me know, and I have also taken steps to remind our non-Chinese editors to stop using Google Translate to try to add content relating to languages they have no background in.
In any case, I have been meaning to rename the article title for that page, currently at "Yichunkan" per pinyin. I named it that to be safe until we receive official translations, but the official English (and French) translations tend to be very poor and also contain a lot of errors. Translation work can be challenging because even if one knows the meanings in both Chinese and English, we have to consider whether a particular translation choice is awkward in one language. For 移春檻, it would be less awkward to give a translated name rather than leaving it in pinyin.
In the French edition, 移春檻 is Fleurs des Mille Printemps, which I believe means 'Flowers of a Thousand Springs". The French translators use alternative, original names rather than translating the names closely. The English translates 移春檻 to "Shifting Springs", leaving out the 檻.
I would like to ask for your recommendation for the best English title for our article on 移春檻. I think "Shifting Spring" is fine for 移春 and sounds nice in English, but I am not sure I like leaving out 檻. Here are my ideas:
*"Bouquet of Shifting Spring" – this sounds the best in English out of all the options, but it deviates from the meaning of 檻.
*"Basket of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Basket"
*"Cage of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Cage"
*"Carriage of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Carriage"
*"Wagon of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Wagon"
*"Cart of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Cart"
I think each of the latter four options don't quite capture the meaning for 檻 in this context exactly, but they are the closest terms I can think of in English. Of course, if you have any other different ideas, you're welcome to share them too.
While I am at it, can you also help with the translation for 花魁? My understanding is that this is the grand prize for the contest, but I have found it really hard to render it accurately in English. Update on 移春檻
Hello, I corrected our article for 移春檻 a while back in accordance with the errors you pointed out to me.
- "Bouquet of Shifting Spring" – this sounds the best in English out of all the options, but it deviates from the meaning of 檻.
- "Basket of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Basket"
- "Cage of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Cage"
- "Carriage of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Carriage"
- "Wagon of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Wagon"
- "Cart of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Cart"
I think each of the latter four options don't quite capture the meaning for 檻 in this context exactly, but they are the closest terms I can think of in English. Of course, if you have any other different ideas, you're welcome to share them too.
While I am at it, can you also help with the translation for 花魁? My understanding is that this is the grand prize for the contest, but I have found it really hard to render it accurately in English. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 02:24, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
