The Carnevale is an annual event held in Venice, Italy known for the extravagant costumes and decorated masks. Believed to have started in 1162, it became an official tradition in Renaissance.

Associated with the pre-Lenten festivals celebrated on and around Martedì Grasso, the Carnevale lasted well over a month. People, civilians and noblemen alike, celebrated the festival playing games and competitions in the fair and involving in various activities such as gambling, brothels, and watching entertainers and performers in the streets and city squares. The environment was vibrant with people garbing in colorful and unique dresses and putting on different dominoes and masks, with dancing and fireworks being integral components of the festival.
