Title
Shouldn't this article be called 'The Jackdaw'? It is always referred to as that as other ships were/are. (for example The Titanic) -- Altaïr 18:51, March 4, 2013 (UTC)
- Aquila, Vulture, Windermere, Leviathan, Randolph. It is how we've named all our ship articles. Nesty Contact me! 19:46, March 4, 2013 (UTC)
- Should probably point out that ships are never entitled "The xxx" unless the "The" is a part of the name. For example: "Jack Smith was on Titanic when it sunk." You might say that Edward Kenway was captain of the Jackdaw, but the vessels name has no "the" in it. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 14:04, March 8, 2013 (UTC)
Name
Does anyone know of any inspiration for the name? I know that that "Jackdaw" is a type of crow, but I'm not 100% sure if that's relevant. Crimson Knight Intercom 19:39, March 4, 2013 (UTC)
Jackdaw, is a passerine bird in the crow family. Something that makes it connect with birds.--ACsenior (talk) 20:13, March 4, 2013 (UTC)
Considering there's an article naming Edward as a Welshman, it might be pertinent that in Welsh folk lore, jackdaws are considered sacred (nesting in church steeples keeping it safe from the devil). "I have no more knowledge of the fact than the Devil has of the jackdaw," goes a saying. ;) Sadelyrate (talk) 20:20, March 4, 2013 (UTC)
Trivia
Would it be worth mentioning in the trivia that the jackdaw bird is sacred in Welsh folklore?

Might be; this was mentioned earlier, in a discussion about the ship's name. :) Sadelyrate (siniath) 10:58, May 17, 2013 (UTC)
Fifth or Fourth Rate?
I was wondering if it would be worth mentioning what rate the Jackdaw is? From the number of cannons it can hold at full upgrade, it looks like it was a fourth rate ship of the line. 137.149.218.220 12:51, October 22, 2013 (UTC)
- It's a hybrid (which, I think, is mentioned in the article). --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 12:57, October 22, 2013 (UTC)
- I am not seeing any mention of the word hybrid in this article but from the upgrades it can carry you would certainly be right. At its core though, the Jackdaw falls into the frigate class does it not? 137.149.218.220 13:03, October 22, 2013 (UTC)
- It is a modified brig. It has been mentioned on Twitter by Ashraf Ismail, Black Flag's Game Director. Slate Vesper (talk) 22:47, October 23, 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I did not know that since I don't follow Twitter.

Quote, perhaps?
Don't you think we should have a qoute at the top? Just saying - a lot of other pages have them, and it certainly makes the page seem a bit more professional and offers a unique insight about the subject.
I had a good one up, but 'certain people' decided to take it down...
MasterKenway (talk) 21:31, December 3, 2013 (UTC)
- It was likely removed because it was formatted incorrectly. Also, we can look at the history and see who "certain people" are, so...
- Molotov.cockroach (talk) 21:41, December 3, 2013 (UTC)
- Put it back up, I remember seeing it and I didn't think there was anything particularly wrong with it. If necessary, I'll tweak it a little :) Crook The Constantine District 21:46, December 3, 2013 (UTC)
- It was the quote that Adewale said to Edward before they took the fort where Torres was, about how the Jackdaw was his best chance for prosperity and equality.
- MasterKenway (talk) 01:20, December 4, 2013 (UTC)
- It didn't use the quote template. I added it back in with the correct formatting. Does that look good?
- Molotov.cockroach (talk) 01:41, December 4, 2013 (UTC)
- Very nice. That's exactly the quote I was talking about. I didn't know there was actually a quote template, though - just how to do do that?
- MasterKenway (talk) 01:58, December 4, 2013 (UTC)
- It's pretty easy. It looks like this:
- {{Quote|Quote text here|person being quoted|source}}
- You put the quote and all necessary information into that, and the wiki formats it nicely. The "Quote" part changes depending on how many people are speaking. If you want to do a dialogue quote, my suggestion would be to find another page that has a quote with that many people speaking, and copy the first word in its template.

- Thanks, mate.

Jack
Ok the first mate on the Jackdaw is called Jack but he is never seen could this be a Captain Jack Sparrow reference?JP338 (talk) 12:01, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
- Could be. Could just as easily not be. --Jasca Ducato (talk | contributions) 13:35, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
- If it is, it's likely an inside joke, like Calico Jack being one of the gibbited skeletons in Pirates of the Carribean. -Molotov.cockroach (talk) 18:50, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
Factual correction - El Dorado myth as mentioned by Mary Read
The myth that Mary mentions is not a foreshadowing of the Jackdaw's destiny (this doesn't really make any sense to me), it is the real conquistador myth of El Dorado, or "The city of gold" which was believed to exist somewhere in Guyana: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado

WHAT SHIP IS THE JACKDAW?
This question lingered in the back of my mind for quite some time now. What ship IS the Jackdaw? It dosn't say in the game, so I'd want this question awnsered soon. Is it a Scooner? Or a Brig, like I heard my partner say?
... Did you read the article on the Jackdaw? Here's the first sentence for you: "The Jackdaw was a brig captained by the pirate and later Assassin Edward Kenway, which he obtained with the help of Adéwalé, during his time in the West Indies." While we don't mind answering questions, if the information is as easily found as this, it becomes kind of ridiculous :/ I'm pretty sure this is stated in-game as well.
