The Volga is a river in Eastern Europe, flowing through modern day Russia.
History
Circa 860s, the body of Viking Rig Reidarasson was returned home from Rusland on a journey up the Volga.[1] Around ten years later, Sigurd Styrbjornsson of the Raven Clan traveled east, down the Volga.[2]
The city of Kazan, capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia, lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers. In 1918, Russian Assassin Nikolai Orelov traversed Kazan to attempt to reach his ally Leon Trotsky to help him smuggle Grand Duchess Anastasia into Moscow. Trotsky sold Nikolai out to the Templars, seeing Anastasia as too grand a symbol to remain alive.[3] Anastasia helped free Nikolai,[4] and they escaped from Kazan through the Volga.[5]
