The Viper Bow

The Viper Bow was a bow inspired by and dedicated to snakes.

History

One such bow was made in ancient Greece during the 5th century BCE. Adorned with stylized etchings of the reptiles, the bow was kept by the Chiot Daughters of Artemis within the Cave of Arktoi. At some point in the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the cave at the behest of Bryce and found the bow alongside a curious disk.[1]

Another identically-named bow was made in 9th century Norway. During the Viking expansion into England, the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan found one and claimed it for her own. After many raids, she gathered sufficient funds and resources to upgrade the bow to different tiers, increasing its attack and lethality against opponents while also displaying finer craftsmanship.

Behind the scenes

The Viper Bow in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey shares the same model as the commonly found Serpent Bow, another weapon in the same game. Despite the name, there are no snakes engraved on the model, nor on the ones used in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.
