Tydeus is a figure in Greek mythology.
Featured in Aischylos's play Seven Against Thebes as well as in Homer's Iliad, Tydeus was one of the seven leaders of the Argive army who sought to seize the city of Thebes in Boeotia for Polynikes. In the heat of the battle, Tydeus ate the Thebian defender Melanippos' brain.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War one of the Followers of Ares resided in a place called Tydeus' Lair within Ancient Ruins of Perseus in Argolis.[1]
