The Assassins in Tunguska, before the explosion

Tunguska was a remote region of the Yenisey basin close to the Krasnoyarsk Krai river in Russia.

History

The Tunguska explosion occurred in June 1908 near the Podkamennaya Tunguska river, some 8 kilometers (5 miles) south of Lake Cheko. The Tunguska incident was said to be the result of an attack by Assassins. The area had a Templar research station and a Piece of Eden, both of which were said to be destroyed in the attack.[1]

At some point after gaining the trust of the Romanov family, Grigori Rasputin stole the Imperial Sceptre, a Piece of Eden of considerable power, and brought it to Tunguska.[2]

Nikolai Orelov, an Assassin, asked for Nikola Tesla's assistance in destroying the Imperial Sceptre, in order to keep it out of the hands of the Templars. Tesla used the Wardenclyffe Tower to channel vast amounts of electricity into the artifact, and the resulting explosion fractured the Staff into several shards, one of which was later recovered by Rasputin.[3]

In 2012, details on Tunguska and the explosion that occurred there were collected by the Assassin Clay Kaczmarek and hidden in the Animus for his successor, Desmond Miles to find; which he did in September of that year.[1][2]

In June 2013, the Nature.com website posted an article explaining the "true" cause of the Tunguska explosion and dispelling rumors. The article was later collected by a member of the Initiates.[4]
