Town criers were public announcers that existed during the 18th century. The Kanien'kehá:ka Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton could bribe the criers in Boston and New York, in order to reduce his notoriety.
Trivia
- Unlike heralds in Italy and Constantinople, town criers could not be pickpocketed after being bribed.
- The criers did not attract crowds of civilians, and some held up newspapers.
