Tartarus is the dungeon of torment and suffering in the Greek mythology. It was where Zeus imprisoned the Titans, including his own father Kronos, following their fights.
It was also the place where Typhon was imprisoned after he attempted to overthrow Zeus, and failed.[1]
Upon returning to the plagued Athens during the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra likened the city's state to that of Tartarus.[2]
Trivia
- Though often likened with the Greek underworld, Tartarus was a place on its own, closer to Christianity's observation of Hell.
