Ezio, my friend! How may I be of service?

This article is in desperate need of a revamp. Please improve it in any way necessary in order for it to achieve a higher standard of quality in accordance with our Manual of Style.

The Sun seen in the Glyphs

The Sun is a star at the center of Earth's Solar System.[1]

History

In 75,000 BCE, a coronal mass ejection erupted from the Sun and struck the Earth, decimating a large portion of the human and Isu populations on the planet, and scorching the surface of the Earth.[2]

In 2012, a second, equally powerful coronal mass ejection erupted from the Sun, and once again hit the Earth. Fortunately for the planet's human population, measures taken by the previous eruption's survivors – namely Minerva, Juno, and Jupiter – to defend against such a re-occurrence, meant that the planet survived largely unscathed.[3]

Influence

The Sun features prominently in multiple religions and myths, but especially in Ancient Egyptian mythology, where it was personified in the god Ra.[4] Other gods, too, were often depicted adorned with the sun disc. Aten in turn was the sun disc itself, personified, and made prominent by the pharaoh Akhenaten.[5] In classical mythology, Apollo drove the sun across the sky, a role earlier associated with the god Helios.[6]

Among the Iroquois, the sun was said to be the eye of the mythical Sky Woman, with her other eye becoming the Moon.[7]

The Place Vendôme square in Paris, France was built as a tribute to the Sun according to Nostradamus.[8]

During the 18th century, the St. John's Wort was also known as 'Solterrestres', meaning the Terrestrial Sun, for like the Sun, it was believed to drive off 'spirits of darkness'.[9] Another flower connected to the Sun was the lotus.[4]
