The Sons of Liberty were a group of Patriots that originated the independence movement in the colonies. The Sons of Liberty dedicated their efforts to extending American freedom under the British rule, and were known for their rowdy acts of dissidence against the British Crown. Such notoriety prevented well known Patriots, including John Hancock and Benjamin Franklin, from joining the group because of the possibility of being apprehended by the British.
Notable members of the Sons of Liberty included Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and Benedict Arnold.
