Shiraz is a city in Iran.

Though clay tablets that reference the city date back to 2000 BCE, the restoration of Shiraz by the Umayyad Caliphate in 693 CE was the reason for its rise in prominence.[1] The 9th century Persian merchant Azar[2] and the 16th century Italian Assassin Dariâ[3] both hailed from Shiraz.
