Shingū

Shingū (新宮市) is a city in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.[1] During the Sengoku period, it was located in the eastern part of Kii Province.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke visited Shingū after following a lead from the yamabushi Genpaku about imposters attacking and killing locals across the land. While there, they spotted and confronted one of the imposters who was patrolling the city. Upon his death, Naoe and Yasuke retrieved the naginata Izanagi's Reach from the imposter's personal effects.[2] The pair also bought udon from a local food vendor for their ally Hong in Wakasa to sample,[3] and established a kakurega in the city.[4]
