Šihāb ad-Dīn was the Governor of Hama uncle of the Saracen Sultan Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn, and his second-in-command. Shihab was present during the siege of Masyaf in 1176, and negotiated the terms of his nephew's withdrawal, following an infiltration of the man's personal tent by the Assassins the night before.

Shihab informed the Assassin Mentor, Rashid ad-Din Sinan, that the only condition the Saracens insisted upon was the execution of the Assassin responsible for the death of a Saracen nobleman the night before: Umar Ibn-La'Ahad.

Trivia

  • In Arabic, Šihāb ad-Dīn (شهاب الدين) means "Star of the Faith". The word Šihāb (شهاب) can also refer specifically to a "shooting star".
