Archimedes of Syracuse (c. 287 BCE – c. 212 BCE) was a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer.

During his lifetime, Archimedes wrote a treatise titled On the Equilibrium of Planes. The content of the work was later inscribed on papyruses and studied by geographers in the Library of Alexandria in Egypt.[1]
