Maria fled shortly after, leaving both the twin brothers to fight against the lone Assassin. Shalim and Shahar began their fight confidently, sure to quickly overwhelm their opponent, as both of them were adapt with the blade. However, Altaïr, in his rage and frustration by the betrayal he had to endure, kept fighting for his life, eventually slaying the twins.
