- It is revealed that both Myriam and Norris were illiterate, as they required Father Timothy to read a letter received from a person regarding Norris' mined goods. Another letter informed Myriam that a shipment of furs she sent was lost in a shipwreck, read to them by Dr. Lyle White.
- Myriam seemed to hold the utmost respect for Achilles, lingering behind at his funeral, even after everyone but Connor had departed.
