Michael Crawley was a skilled member of the Colonial Assassins, who defected the Brotherhood and started a new life in Old Growth Forest. During the Seven Years' War, his former comrades found out he was alive and tried to tracked him down, altough he was aided and protected by the Templar Shay Cormac.
