The Metal Cestus was a weapon that Ezio Auditore wore to improve the damage he could cause in fistfights. It consisted of a leather glove lined with metal plates.[1]

Description

The Metal Cestus originated from the ancient Roman Empire, where gladiators used weapons similar to the Cestus in arena fights.

After being purchased from any of the city Blacksmiths for 2,000 florins, the Cestus granted Ezio a slight advantage in Beat Up events, as well as any other instance that involved unarmed fighting.[1]

A further upgrade to the Cestus called the Climb Leap Glove could be bought from Leonardo da Vinci upon Ezio's arrival.[2]

Aside from granting the same advantages to damage and speed, it also returned the Climb Leap ability previously taught to Ezio by Rosa, which he became unable to perform unassisted after being injured in the Siege of Monteriggioni.[2]

Trivia

File:Eziocestus.jpg
Ezio using the Metal Cestus.
  • The Metal Cestus will be automatically equipped when purchased, and cannot be unequipped.
  • The Metal Cestus was the only weapon Ezio could use in his fight against Rodrigo Borgia in front of the Vatican Vault.
  • At the beginning of Brotherhood when Ezio is wearing the Armor of Altaïr, the Metal Cestus is not present. Also, when wearing Armor Of Brutus, the Metal Cestus or Climb Leap Glove is not present.
  • Purchasing the Climb Leap Glove before the secondary hidden blade will affix the metal plating directly onto Ezio's fingers.
    • A similar effect can be achieved by replaying any sequence where the Armor of Brutus is worn, then re-equipping another set of armor.
  • In the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood novel, it is said that the glove that Leonardo sells to Ezio would improve his climbing abilities to that of a gecko.
  • The cestus itself was invented by the Romans for use in gladitoral matches. Ezio's cestus is much more refined and durable. The orginal one was a leather wrap with spikes and studs punched into the thick leather pad that went over the main knuckles -- basically the first boxing glove.
