Leif Ericson (c. 970 – c. 1020) was a Norse explorer widely regarded today as the first European to reach North America, in what is Newfoundland today.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Although it is unknown whether he was part of the initial voyage to North America, he was certainly a member of the Viking expedition that reached L'Anse aux Meadows. According to Viking myths and sagas, Ericson founded a colony there in the area known as Vinland.[1]
