The camp around the hole of the Keadas Cave

The Keadas Cave was a cave northeast of Aipeia in Messenia, Greece.

History

The chasm of Keadas had served Sparta as an execution place, for those sentenced to die, or Sparta's enemies, were thrown into its depths. Among these was king Aristomenes of Messenia, who survived and escaped, despite being thrown in twice.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Order of Dominion set up a camp near the cave, whom Artazostre used to dispose the bodies of people who were killed by the Order. Around 422 BCE, the hideout was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who found a note on a Persian captain revealing Artazostre's identity as a member of the Order.[2]
