Kallimachos (c. 310/305 BCE – 240 BCE), also known as Callimachus, was a Greek poet, critic and scholar.
Born in Cyrene in Ancient Libya, Kallimachos was later educated in Athens. He later moved to Alexandria in Egypt to work in the Library of Alexandria. Kallimachos strongly rejected the epic format of Homer's poems, and instead supported a shorter, more judiciously formulated style of poetry. His works later proved to be extremely popular, second only to Homer's own works and were emulated by later poets.[1]
