==Political Status==
The city's political status is widely disputed, with Israel and Palestine claiming it as the capital city of their states. According the 1949 armistice lines, the eastern part of the city (East Jerusalem), which includes the historical city (Old City) is supposed to be given to the Palestinian Authority, whilst the western part was granted to the Israeli State. Israel is currently executing actions to control the rest of the city, these actions mostly include establishment of Israeli settlements, and the ostracizing of the Arab population.
==Temples==
There are many historical sites and temples that can be found in today's Jerusalem, Christian sites include The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and Muslim sites include the Dome of Rock and the Aqsa (al-Aqsa) Mosque. There are currently no Jewish sites found on the historical city of Jerusalem, current excavations executed by the Israeli government aim to search for a claimed Solomon's Temple, while risking the destruction of many other sites significant to the other two religions. A site claimed to be the western wall of the temple is a site of significance to the Jewish people, while there is no solid support for this claim.

Jerusalem (Arabic: القدس) is the capital and largest city of Israel. It is an accessable location in Assassin's Creed, and plays a part in many of the main storyline missions.

History

It is known as the "Holy City" to Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and "Outremer" to Templars. The largest city in the Holy Land, it houses exquisite mosques and cathedrals, denoting the contrast of cultures here. Two major Templar structures were found here, the Templar Tower (circa 1190), and Solomon's Temple, a structure under the city where the Apple was kept, inside the Ark of the Covenant.

In 1190, Altaïr visited the city twice. During his first visit, he infiltrated a noble's villa, where he attacked Lord Basilisk and captured the third key to the Temple of the Sand. His next step took him into the Templar Tower, where he killed its Master and took a map to the Temple of the Sand. During his second visit, he freed the Chalice, an artifact he was looking for, from the Templars' control.

Altaïr returned to the city in 1191, first failing to retrieve the Templar treasure from under the Dome of the Rock, and three more times as part of his redemption.
