Jade refers to a variety of largely green-hued minerals, often used as sculpting material.
History

Unknown
Both the Mayas and the Aztecs used jade as a decorative stone, whence they carved into various shapes, or used as part of mosaics.[1]
In China, jade was considered to be a symbol of good fortune, same as pigs.[1]
3rd century
In 221 , Emperor Qin Shi Huang[2] laid claim to the Imperial Jade Seal, a Piece of Eden made of jade which granted its bearer the legitimacy to rule China.[3]
18th century
During the Golden Age of Piracy in the West Indies, jade was desired for its value by lots of people, including pirates, and soldiers.[4] In search of carved jade, they were not above raiding Mayan temples, or offering rewards for it.[5]

19th century
In the Victorian era, jade was used occasionally in the crafting of weapons, namely in the blades of kukris and cane-swords .[6]
Behind the scenes
