Hugrheim named after Hugr, the soul and spirit in Norse mythology, is the name given by the Norse woman Hildiran to the various simulated mind realms created by the Isu device known as Freya's medallion. Within the these places, the users could train their fighting skills without fear of injury or harm.[1][2]

Usage

To enter Hugrheim, the user had to concentrate their mind on the medallion, managing to overlay the vicinities in a specific type of ambient, though the efficiency of this method could be augmented by using the energy of one of the Shrines of the Valkyrie, expanding the simulation. When inside it, the user could choose what type of skill they wanted to hone and the simulation would mold to their needs. When used by Eivor Varinsdottir, she had the ability to choose between three types of challenges (Wolf, Raven, and Bear), each one representing a different skill to master (archery, stealth and fighting respectively). Its user could also bring along other people into the simulation, even if the other participant did not agree to enter it.[1]

History

Eivor Entering the Simulation

Circa 883 CE, Hildiran taught the art of Hugrheim to the Raven Clan's jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir, who, at first, did not believe it, though Hildiran activated the device and sent both of them into the simulation. Eivor was given an armor set and two weapons that weren't her own, and Hildiran was transformed into a being with great skill.

After their fight within the realm, Eivor was shocked at what she saw and accepted the woman's offer to teach her. The Viking then travelled to each one of the Shrines of the Valkyrie scattered throughout England and completed various series of meditation challenges with the device, each one sending her into a different scenario and training technique within Hugrheim.[1]

Behind the scenes

While in the Mastery Challenges, the players are given a specific armor set, weapon pack and abilities and can't use the ones that they have equipped in the inventory outside of the game mode, reflecting the simulation's nature.
