The estate of the wealthy merchant Ali Baba was located in the Karkh district of Baghdad, north of the Monastery of the Virgins, where Ali and his daughter Muhja lived during the 860s.
History
Following Ali Baba's death,[1] his funeral was held at the estate, attended by his family, relatives and friends including the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq. Seeking to prevent the secret behind their hideout from being exposed, the Forty Thieves sent a group of men to the estate, intending to eliminate Ali Baba's daughter Murjana. Before this operation, they had one of their spies mark the house which Murjana lived in, although this was discovered by Basim. Basim made use of paint to mark the other house doors in the estate to confuse the thieves and eliminated them.[2]
