9th century Grimsby

Grimsby is a village and the fishing port in Lincolnscire, England. It served as the home of the Norse woman Swanburrow, who was the lover of nobleman Hunwald, the son of the shire's ealdorman Hundbeorht.

In 875, Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan escorted lord Hunwald to the village to check on Swanburrow.[1] The town was also a home for many Danes, including Aelfgar's hunting friend and the village's lord, Grim.[2] Through her travels, Eivor also returned an asleep man back to his wife, who lived in the village.[3]

Behind the Scenes

According to legend, the city was named after a Danish fisherman called Grim. However, in the legends, Grim was sometimes said to be Odin in disguise.
