George V (George Frederick Ernest Albert; 1865 – 1936) was the King of the United Kingdom and Emperor of India from 1910 until his death. He was the second son of Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark.[1]

Biography

On 13 June 1865, shortly after his birth, his father received a royal correspondence from his maternal grandmother Queen Victoria, who expressed general disappointment with his father's proposed names for George, though she preferred the suggested "Frederic" above "George". She emphasized the tradition of many European monarchies in having children of both genders carry their respective grandparents' names to mark family lines,[2] and in a seeming compromise, he was named George Frederick Ernest Albert.[3]
