Emily Burke was a pioneer during the American Revolutionary War. Being the only girl in a family of ten, Emily developed a tomboyish attitude and learned the meaning of hard work and sacrifice at a very young age. She had a difficult time adjusting to the decency of her gender growing up. Though when the lives of her father and brothers were taken by the war, she abandoned her claim and searched for answers. She would kill any who were involved in the loss of her family.
In 2012, her genetic memories were used as an Animi Avatar by Abstergo Industries, for the training of their recruits in the third stage of the Animi Training Program, under the title of the Pioneer.
