Edirne, historically known as Adrianople (Latin: Hadrianopolis) is a city in Turkey, in the northwestern province of Edirne. It was founded by the Roman emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century. Prior to Constantinople, Edirne was the third capital city of the Ottoman Empire.

The Sultan Bayezid II, growing tired of his accommodation at Topkapı Palace, relocated to Edirne briefly near the end of his reign. This act allowed the Ottoman Brotherhood of Assassins to wander the palace grounds easier without drawing attention.[1]
