Ealhswith (died 902) was the wife of King Alfred the Great. Together they had issue; Æthelflæd, Edward the Elder, Æthelgifu, Ælfthryth, and Æthelweard.

Biography

In 877, Ealhswith took her young daughter, Æthelflæd on a leisurely walk. They were approached by a young local boy, Esobert, who gifted the young princess a flower and proclaimed his love for her. Ealhswith humored the boy and said they would have to wait until they were both adults, and the need for Alfred's approval. With this said, the two returned to the confines of their castle.[1]
