The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic mosque and major landmark located in the city of Jerusalem. The Dome was believed to be built on the final resting place of Islam founder, Mohammad. It was built between 689 and 691 CE atop of the Temple Mount. As one of the most recognized and important Islamic shrines in the city, the site of the Temple Mount is coveted by three religions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
Trivia
- Though the dome appears golden in Assassin's Creed, it was not gilded until 1963. It was covered with black lead during the Third Crusade.
- A view point is positioned on top of the roof, as the top of the dome itself is inaccessible.
- Solomon's Temple is located beneath the Dome of the Rock. The entrance is somewhere in a building near the dome.
- The multiplayer map Jerusalem in Assassin's Creed: Revelations takes place near the dome.
