Crucified Christians in the 9th century

Crucixion is the suspension of a person to a wooden beam either by ropes or nails until dead. Used as a punishment throughout human history, crucifixion was made notorious by the death of Jesus of Nazareth.

History

The ancient Romans practiced crucifixion, and during the 1st century BCE, they used crucifixion to make examples of criminals and rebels during their occupation of Cyrenaica[1] and Sinai.[2] They also crucified numerous Christians, Saint Peter among them.[3]

Cases of crucifixion continued into the 9th century in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of East Anglia.[4]
