The Council of Troyes was a church council held in 1129 that played a key role in recognizing and legitimizing the Knights Templar.[1]

Council

It was convened in the city of Troyes, France, under the authority of Pope Honorius II. Grand Master and founder of the Knights Templar Hugues de Payens, attended the council to seek official recognition for his order. Led by Bernard de Clairvaux, the council officially endorsed the Templar Order, approving its rule and granting it ecclesiastical support. This marked the beginning of the Templars' rise as a powerful military and religious force during the Crusades.[2] The council also standardized the attire of the Knights Templar to the color white to symbolize purity.[1]
