Christopher Marlowe, aslo known as Kit Marlowe (baptised 26 February 1564 – 30 May 1593), was an English poet, playwright, and translator of the Elizabethan era.

Marlowe wrote, among others, The Famous Tragedy of the Rich Jew of Malta. The play featured a Jewish villain, which eventually resulted in its revival following the execution of Roderigo Lopez, the Jewish chief physician of Queen Elizabeth I, who was hanged, drawn, and quartered in 1594 for attempting to poison the Queen.
