The Tong Pass (潼關), or Tongguan, is a mountain pass situated at the confluence of the Wei and Yellow Rivers. The name also refers to the fortress built to defend the pass.[1]
As a natural choke-point between the North China Plain and the Guanzhong basin,[1] Tong Pass was historically a critical line of defence for the former imperial capital of Chang'an.[2]
