Mary Ann Todd Lincoln (1818 – 1882) was the First Lady of the United States while her husband, Abraham Lincoln, was President.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In early 1862, Mary and her husband personally invited the Italian opera singer Adelina Patti to perform for them following one of her American tour concerts.[1] After her husband's assassination on 15 April 1865, Mary received a letter of condolences from Queen Victoria,[2] which she replied to on 21 May, expressing her gratitude for the Queen's message.[3]
