Democedes

Democedes (died 34 BCE) was a crocodile poacher who served as the captain of the Swenett Outpost in Upper Egypt during the 1st century BCE. He was the identical twin brother of Achaeus, who captained the wharf near the outpost.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Around 34 BCE, Democedes and his brother's poaching activities came under opposition by an Egyptian hunter who masquerade as the crocodile god Sobek. While Achaeus was sure it was the embodiment of the god himself, Democedes was able to see through his disguise and wrote to him, requesting that the hunter be eliminated by nightfall.[1]

Nevertheless, the hunter was assisted by the Hidden One Bayek of Siwa, who eliminated Achaeus, and later Democedes himself.[1]
