The Abenaki are a people indigenous to the northeastern United States, originating in present-day New England and the southern Canadian Maritimes.
History
Unlike the Iroquois, the Abenaki lacked a strong central authority, allowing colonists to seize their territory with relative ease. Initially, the Abenaki tried to remain neutral as the French and Indian War broke out, but conflict became inevitable and they mostly chose to side with the French Army.[1] During the war, members of the Abenaki, Shawnee and Lenape Nations worked together with Kaniehtí:io and Haytham Kenway during the attack on the Braddock Expedition.[2][3]
