Connor Davenport (1748 – 1754) was the son of Abigail and Achilles Davenport.
Biography
Connor was born shortly before the outbreak of the Seven Years' War in Europe.[1] While still very young, his parents commissioned an artist to paint a family portrait which they kept in their home in New York City.[2] However, when both Connor and his mother contracted fatal cases of typhoid fever shortly thereafter,[3][4] a grieving Achilles left the completed art covered up, refusing to look at it. Connor was later buried on a hill beside the Davenport Homestead's manor.[1]
Legacy
Fifteen years after Connor's death, in 1770, a now-elderly Achilles bestowed his son's name to Ratonhnhaké:ton to allow for easier interaction with the colonists while the Kanien'kehá:ka youth trained as an Assassin apprentice.[5] Seven years later, Achilles requested Ratonhnhaké:ton's help in retrieving the art from his former home that had barely survived the Great Fire of New York, although he still did not uncover it or hang it on the wall.[2]
After Achilles' death and burial beside his family in 1781, Ratonhnhaké:ton finally unveiled the image and hung it in the manor's dining room above the fireplace.[6] Following the end of the American Revolutionary War in 1783, Ratonhnhaké:ton took counsel from the Isu Juno via a Crystal Ball and buried the Grand Temple's small key in Connor's grave for safekeeping.[7]
Behind the scenes
Connor's given date of death is inconsistent. In the 2012 video game Assassin's Creed III, his gravestone shows it as 1755, a date corroborated by Achilles' database entry in the 2014 game Assassin's Creed: Rogue,[4] even though Rogue's memory "One Little Victory" set in May 1754 depicts Shay Cormac and Liam O'Brien discussing Abigail and Connor's recent passing.
