Domitia Paulina was a wealthy Roman woman who lived in Cyrene, Cyrenaica during the 1st century BCE.

Around 47 BCE, her name was mentioned in a letter by a Roman Lanista, wherein she was stated to have paid 1000 drachmae for time alone with the gladiator Polymestor.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Domitia is the feminine form of Domitius, which meant 'having been tamed' in Latin. Paulina is the female variation of the name Paulus, meaning 'the little'. Domitia shares her same name with a woman from Hispania, who would later become the mother of Roman Emperor Hadrian.
